I am culturally aware of the sensitivities involved in travel, and Chandigarh is by far one of the safest developed cities in India. Running tours for 5 years, I have crossed hundreds of happy guests. Your safety and comfort are my priority.

Although you are welcome 365 days a year, I highly recommend planning Tuesday–Friday. Mondays mean museums are closed, and weekends have some restrictions, except for national holidays.

Chandigarh is gorgeous all seasons long.

However, you might want to avoid the summer between May to July, when the sun can get quite hot. Still, we power through by planning the day to avoid direct sun exposure, using specially made UV protective umbrellas, ice cold water and yummy local ice cream to keep us powered through.

This is the peak season for Shimla though!

Usually, our Chandigarh tour includes one stopover for Lunch at a local mom-and-pop-run 44-year-old place serving authentic local foods.

My two-day comprehensive package covers sightseeing, architecture, food and culture across both days. Day one is my most popular tour: an overview of the city, including entry inside Le Corbusier's buildings, the University, Capitol Complex and Architecture Museum, spread over 6 hours.

Day two explores government socialist housing, the original buildings by Pierre Jeanneret, Sukhna Lake, Sector 17, the arts museum and a more detailed look at the University – followed by hyperlocal meals.

Uber is practically your best bet for getting around locally. It's reliable, safe, runs 24/7 and accepts every international card as payment.

Chandigarh doesn't have a metro.

Chandigarh is wonderfully walking-friendly when the weather allows! It's very safe, with dedicated cycling and walking paths and a clear, logical city plan, so a stroll through the green cover is genuinely enjoyable.

Otherwise, Uber remains your most reliable, affordable option.

The local bus schedule can be a bit tricky for visitors to figure out. It's great for the environment, but I wouldn't recommend relying on it as a first-time visitor.

The Capitol Complex is one of the most closely guarded, protected spaces in the city. You can't simply walk in and explore – not even from outside for photographs. You'll need permission and a pass to enter.

Guided tours run only three times a day – 10:00am, 12:00pm and 3:00pm. Arrive 20 minutes early with a valid photo ID.

Unfortunately, government policy doesn't allow casual, unguided visits inside the premises. The Capitol Complex houses our High Court and Parliament building and remains a fully functional government site – you'll need to be on a guided tour to enter.

Almost always, depending on local conditions on the day, you'll be taken inside the Vidhan Sabha on a brisk guided tour. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and genuinely a spectacular treat for anyone who appreciates great architecture.

Unfortunately no. There is a considerable amount of uphill walking involved in Shimla, where mobility scooters or taxis cannot work. Shimla is not recommended for those with mobility issues or senior citizens with difficulty walking.

But Chandigarh requires minimal walking and has options for mobility scooters.
